Every piece in the shop has been made, remade, and reworked by hand — some more times than I can count. This is a quiet look back at the versions that came before, the experiments that didn't make it, and the small evolutions that got us here. Not a storefront. Just the story of the work.

The Beginning — The First Sale

Became — Custom Self-Defense Keychain Sets

The very first product I ever sold — personalized self-defense keychain sets, each built by hand with a kubotan, pepper spray, personal alarm, pom-pom, and fabric holders in custom colorways: gray marble, hot pink, leopard print, and red with a 'I solemnly swear that I am up to no good' strap. Before the binders, before the clothing — this is where Sierra Brooklynn began.

The Original Tag — Mental Health Matters with j.e.d

Became — Mental Health Matters Collection

Before the collection had a storefront, it had a tag. The very first pieces were screen-printed and tagged by hand — Sierra Brooklynn, designed by Kimani Mason & Earlean Davis, made in memory of Earlean Davis. This is where the whole thing started: a message made to be worn, and a name made to be remembered. Every version since has carried that with it.

One of the very first things Sierra Brooklynn ever sold — long before we ever made clothing. These A6 glitter budget binders with a snap closure were an early product in our earliest days, and have since been retired. A reminder of where it all started.

Became — Custom Server Books

Handmade personalized server check presenters — rose-gold, hot-pink, and black glitter finishes with custom-name printing and a matching metallic pen clipped into the spine. Each book was made to order for servers who wanted their check presenter to feel like theirs.

An early version of the Red Mental Health Matters Hoodie by j.e.d carried this original tag: SIERRA BROOKLYNN · Designed by Kimani Mason & Earlean Davis · Made in Memory of Earlean Davis. The tag has since been updated to the current design.

First Run — MHM x j.e.d

Pink MHM x j.e.d Tee — First Edition

Became — Mental Health Matters x j.e.d T-Shirt

The very first Mental Health Matters x j.e.d t-shirt Sierra Brooklynn ever made. A pink Gildan DryBlend tee printed in black ink — "Mental Health Matters" in script, a leafed branch, and a brain split in two with two silhouettes sitting back-to-back between the halves. The piece that started the MHM x j.e.d series.

Purple Glitter Budget Binder

Became — Discontinued — predates the clothing line

A purple glitter A6 budget binder from the earliest days of Sierra Brooklynn — long before we ever made clothing. The cover was finished in purple glitter with "Budget Binder" in handwritten script and a matching snap-strap closure, lined with zippered cash envelopes for each budget category and a glitter pen clipped into the spine. The budget binder line has since been retired — another piece of where it all started.

The very first version — hand-pulled on a press I borrowed for the weekend. The print was a little crooked and the ink bled, but the message landed. This is the piece that made me realize the work mattered more than the perfection.

Became — Mental Health Matters Hoodie

A custom Mental Health Matters hoodie made in memory of Earlean Daws — the woman whose battle with mental health helped shape the j.e.d x Mental Health Matters mission. The piece is screen-printed in white script reading "#BreakTheStigma / In memory of / Earlean Davis" with a solid heart beneath. This was the first memorial custom created through the j.e.d program, made to honor a life lost too soon and turn remembrance into wearable advocacy.

The original Mental Health Matters tags — a direct-to-fabric cyan print on the inside of the hoodie reading 'SIERRA BROOKLYNN, Designed by Kimani Mason & Earlean Daws, Recreated in memory of Earlean Daws & those battling with mental health,' paired with the original pink care card printed with 'Mental Health Matters,' the two-figures-on-a-brain graphic, and '#BreakTheStigma.' This is the earliest tagging version before the printed labels were updated.

Became — Server Books (retired)

Personalized server books — custom glitter folios made for restaurant servers, each printed with a name in script. A black glitter book with "Julie" in purple, plus blue and rose glitter colorways. One of Sierra Brooklynn's earliest custom offerings, before the focus shifted to apparel and the Mental Health Matters line. No longer sold.

#LiveLikeEarlean Neck Tag — MHM x j.e.d

Became — MHM by j.e.d

The neck tag from the first Mental Health Matters runs — screen-printed in purple inside the collar of every piece. The hand-drawn Sierra Brooklyn script, our checkmark, and #LiveLikeEarlean, a quiet reminder worn close to the skin. It has since been retired from production, but early MHM pieces still carry it.

Before the custom program, I made pieces one at a time for nurses I knew. The sizing was inconsistent and the colors never matched twice. Every miss taught me how to build it so other people could order their own.

A custom Mental Health Matters hoodie donated in loving memory of Elijah Hayes — a young man lost to suicide. Printed in cyan-blue script reading "#BreakTheStigma / In loving memory of Elijah Hayes." This piece was created and gifted to the family as part of the j.e.d program's commitment to supporting those affected by suicide, turning every garment into a vessel for remembrance and a conversation about mental health.

A one-of-one custom budget binder built for a client named Niah. Mint green faux-leather cover with magnetic snap closure, personalized with "Niah's Budget" in black script. Interior features a 6-ring mechanism, card slots, a pen loop with a rose-gold glitter pen, and a custom-printed Budget Sheet with green header styling. A personal-finance custom created outside the apparel line — showing how the studio extends into functional, personalized goods.
